Summary of 'All raait! It's a new black-white lingo'

This article is mainly based around how the language is developed and some words/slang now originate from foreign countries.

Professor Paul Kerswill said 'Inner-city Londoners are using a new kind of English as their everyday speech, their completely internalised way of speaking, parallel to a local dialect like cockney or geordie.'

It goes on to mention that a group of students from multiple backgrounds all spoke with the same dialect. This is a world away from what language was like, say around 40 years ago. There would be a clear lingual divide between cities, and most certainly countries.

Multi ethnic kind of speech will become more common as more people migrate to the UK, purely because it is fashionable and cool. However some people want to stand out culturally and socially, so are presenting a home-grown variety of English language.

It claims that some concerns have been raised, and at one school, patois has been banned from the classroom as part of a government project to improve results.

To conclude, this article is about how influences have been made by immigrants and how students shouldn't be using patois in an educational environment as it devalues work. It's said that 'there is a time and place for it.'
